The DOT issued a notice today addressing what is sure to be the jockeying already occurring amongst U.S. air carriers to provide service to the newly opened Cuba market. DOT’s notice is brief, but in short:
It expects that the demand to offer scheduled service between the U.S. and Cuba will be significant;
DOT officials need to talk to Cuba officials to assess opportunities for bilateral agreement, but there is no timetable for this to happen; and
“Any carrier holding long dormant (since 1959) U.S.-Cuba authority, would hold no advantage.”
